My Dance Journey
During a journey full of aches, laughs, and an ungodly amount of hairspray, I grew as an individual as well as a dancer. I do not see a future without dance, and I only hope to grow as a performer in college and beyond.
Bharatanatyam
I began my classical dance journey under the guidance of my mother and Guru Smt. Subha Rajeev at the age of 4. While I started off learning Bharatanatyam, I also ventured into semi-classical and Bollywood dance. It was experimenting with these dance forms that led me to appreciate the close relationships dance can build. No matter where I go, I know that I will have a family in dance.
After we moved to Texas in 2016, I joined Ellora Center for Performing Arts under Guru Smt. Vani Iswara. Dance taught me not just how to perform – I cultivated perseverance and confidence while developing life-long friendships. Bharatanatyam is an enormous part of my identity, a passion I know will never get dulled by time.
Contemporary
After starting my dance journey with a classical art form, beginning contemporary dance with folk and Bollywood styles was a challenging addition. However, the group nature of these styles forged countless fond memories and instilled in me a love for experimenting with new styles. I was a part of Aatma Performing Arts school and also had the opportunity to perform at many local cultural events, festivals & competitions. My most unforgettable experiences come from competing in Naya Andaz, Naach Revolution, Dance Pe Chance, and more with my dance group.
